A standalone table lamp named Blaze has been sold for £20,000 to a private Bahraini client to take centre stage in the main salon of a superyacht.
Blade was made by UK company Alexander Joseph Ltd as a demonstration piece to launch the business, which is based on a range of decorative cordless table lamps designed by some of the UK’s finest artists and product designers, handmade by master craftsmen in small workshops, and featuring AJ’s own design of battery cells and electronics to solve the battery life issues found in other cordless lamps.
AJ lamps use the latest in high-density lithium-ion batteries with specially made vintage style LED bulbs. The technology is deliberately discrete but delivers endurance of over 52 hours before recharging is needed.
Beth Nash, AJ marketing manager, said: “Blaze is a truly magnificent lamp, completely handmade by our team of craftsmen, every detail lovingly completed to perfection”.
The base and all fittings are finished in 24ct gold – even the lampshade ring, despite the fact it is unlikely to be seen. The body is handblown from high-grade cobalt blue glass infused with 24ct Gold. The handmade 18 inch lampshade is finished in gold satin silk. All the technology is discreetly hidden in the base.
Said Nash: “Sunseeker was kind enough to let us take publicity photographs of the lamp on board one of their yachts. We shared the images on our social media channels. Within 24 hours we were contacted by our client’s private office after they spotted the lamp in a social media post.”
