The newly opened Forum Groningen, a 10-storey multifunctional public building in the largest city in the northern Netherlands, has tunable white luminaires throughout the entire space that provide continuous dynamic adjustment of the light from 2500K to 4000K throughout the day thanks to the use of eldoLED drivers.
The eldoLED drivers support the new DALI Device Type 8 standard, so precise control of the colour and light intensity could be set using just a single DALI directive.
eldoLED’s DUALdrive digital LED drivers ensure that flicker-free, smooth and consistent dimming to 0.1 percent is achieved by each luminaire. LightShape technology manages the colour and intensity so precisely from luminaire to luminaire that any two or more of the 1,000-plus luminaires could be positioned side-by-side without any observable difference across the colour and intensity range.
The original design by NL Architects in 2007 called for 1,500 fluorescent luminaires. Eight years later, the lighting was redesigned for LED technology to improve sustainability and produce effects that simply weren’t possible with the original technology. NL Architects, Lichtpunt Theatertechniek, TDE-lighttech, and eldoLED worked closely together through the process from review of the design review, the creation of a new luminaire, experimental test set-ups, and ultimately installation and commissioning.
