The seventh edition of the Middle East Lighting Design Summit is set to take place in Dubai next year and has already attracted an all-star line-up of over 30 speakers, with more to be announced shortly.
As the region’s leading lighting design summit, it will provide over 400 lighting professionals with the opportunity to discuss the current trends, emerging technologies and innovative practices that are shaping the lighting design industry, and learn more about the potential within the market.
Organisers of the summit, Expotrade Global, have recently confirmed two esteemed international and award-winning lighting designers as headline speakers:
♦ Gerd Pfarré (right), a lighting designer since 1992, and founder of the award-winning Pfarré Lighting Design practice
Gerd is a professional member of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), and has served as a Member of the IALD Board of Directors. In 2012, he was inducted into the IALD College of Fellows.
A frequent speaker at universities and conferences around the world, Gerd is also a juror in the field of lighting design, and from 2011 – 2013 he was the co-editor of ILLUMINATOR, the print edition.
His practice is the recipient of over 100 national and international design awards, whilst Gerd himself was named ‘Lighting Designer of the Year’ in 2016 at the prestigious Lighting Design Awards in London, UK.

Michael began his lighting design career in 1998 and subsequently became a director of Sutton Vane Associates, helping them with numerous projects and awards all over the world.
Over the last 15 years his projects have been featured on BBC TV and Channel 4 as well as in the national specialist press. He has won accolades including the National Lighting Design Award, Lux Award, RIBA White Rose, Landscape Institute Award and Design Week Award.
Michael is also a member of the International Association of Lighting Designers, Society of Light & Lighting, Chartered Society of Lighting and a guest lecturer at the Arts University College of Bournemouth.
Gerd and Michael will be joined by experts from across the GCC region, speaking on a range of topics including façade lighting, the importance of natural light, architectural lighting 2.0, the major drivers of indoor lighting management, the effect of light on productivity, and many more.
