The Board of Directors of the Middle East Lighting Association (MELA) has announced the appointment of Berno Ram as the third President of MELA.
Currently managing global Hospitality Lighting for Signify, Berno Ram has had a long career in the lighting industry. As well as a wealth of experience in lighting and lighting applications, he has represented industry interests in Europe (at Lighting Europe) and now the Middle East (at MELA).
His appointment as MELA President coincides with the recent strategic objective outlined by the MELA Board and members to bring a much needed minimum level of quality to the lighting specification market in the region through the introduction of a Middle East series of best-practice lighting application guides.
Berno joined Philips in 1986 and Philips Lighting (now Signify) in 2000, holding various roles in sustainability and green marketing, and more recently in business development, sales and lighting application services in Europe, Russia, South America and the Middle East.
Berno will be supported in his role by Vice Presidents Manoj Jayachandran (MD Middle East Africa Turkey Central Asia & South East Asia for Tungsram International) and Rami Obeid (Retail & Trade Sales Director & Brand Ambassador at Ledvance).
Formally established in 2014 MELA has five founding members: producers of light sources, luminaires and lighting control gear. Its total membership covers approximately 50 percent of the GCC product market share.
MELA is the main platform for discussion, development and communication of lighting industry positions in the Middle East region in support of regulatory initiatives. Its mission is to support key regional stakeholders to move towards a sustainable lighting future for the benefit of each part of the community, through effective implementation of efficient lighting policy.
